Liming is a soil treatment method. It is used for preparation of hides before tanning. It is used in processing leather, mostly by leather chemical companies.
It is an eco-friendly, sludge free liming process resulting in improved quality of leather. The process involves liming the well soaked raw hides and skins wherein, like the conventional process, no lime is formed in the lime bath, thereby reducing the load of beam house effluent. The unique feature of this process is to carry out liming, avoiding completely the use of lime.
Long periods of liming results in hair removal. Modern liming methods, and in particular, the processing of sheepskins the hair is removed first and then limed in a liming drum. In hair-save technology, the hides are unhaired first and then limed for a further 12-18 hours.
