Resin is a hydrocarbon secretion of many plants, valued for its many constitutents and uses such as varnishes and adhesives are important source of raw materials. The resin produced by most plants is a viscous liquid. Typical rosin is a transparent or translucent mass, with a vitreous fracture and a faintly yellow or brown colour, non-odorous or having only a slight turpentine odour and taste.

Hard transparent resins are mostly used for varnishes and cement. Resin in the form of rosin is used for the up keep of bows for stringed instruments i.e. violin, viola, cello, and double bass because of its quality of adding friction to the hair. Ballet dancers apply crushed resins to their shoes to increase grip on a slippery floor. It has been used as a medium for sculpture by artists such as Eva Hesse and in other types of hard work.

In earlier day, the use of resin was much than that is today. It used to be put up on tables, on sofa covers. It was the symbol of pride and royalty. Today that same resin has become so expensive which a common person can't afford to have it at his place. It is used on wrist watches to form their belts and also can be used to prepare bags which are used in traveling.
